Strawberry Basil Mint Cocktail

Strawberry Basil Mint Cocktail

Summer Book Club Cocktail

This past Saturday I hosted a book club gathering (my friend book club, rather than my work book club) at our house.  In staying with my New Year’s resolution, I whipped up a signature cocktail for the event.  I wanted to make sure it was a light and refreshing drink since it was a brunch as well as above 80 degrees outside.

I found this tasty Strawberry Basil Mint cocktail recipe on Pinterest and had to give it a try (original source can be found here.) Plus, the book we had read was Shocked: My Mother, Schiaparelli, and Me by Patricia Volk, which has a bright pink cover – so I thought it would be a fitting choice.

Strawberry Basil Mint Cocktail Recipe

6-8 servings

4 cups strawberries, hulled (I just used two cartons)

1/4 cup of fresh mint

1 cup fresh basil (which I picked from our garden!)

1/2 cup of fresh squeezed orange juice

2 cups club soda

5 tablespoons of light agave nectar (FYI – found this in the baking aisle)

1/2 cup Grand Marnier

Puree all ingredients in a blender and our through a strainer to remove the herbs.

Serve over ice

Though it was rather sweet, I really enjoyed tasting the complexity of the strawberries, mint, and basil and with only a little alcohol, it was a perfect drink to have at a brunch.

Do you have any tasty brunch cocktail recipes to share?

This sounds divine! I will most definitely try it.

This weekend I joined a wonderful group of women for the first annual “glamping” trip. I of course needed a suitably glam drink that could easily be made in the woods without the use of a blender or electricity of any kind. I decided to start with the handle of tequila in the cupboard and thus I discovered:

    The Paloma

In a glass with ice and a salt or sugar rim…
    2oz tequila
    1/2oz lime
6oz grapefruit soda (Squirt and ruby red are both delicious in their own ways but I found 50/50 of each is my favorite combination. For a more gourmet affair use 3oz fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and 3oz club soda.)
    Garnish with lime and enjoy!

A couple weekends ago I attended a bachlorette party and was served a delicious fruity beverage. I was never told a name for it so I just call it Blueberry Alcohol Juice (clever, I know):

Blueberry Alcohol Juice (serves: about 8 people)
*combine all these ingredients, mix and serve with ice*
    – 1 bottle of Simply Lemonaid Blueberry
    – 3/4 bottle of Fresca
    – 2 1/2 cups of Vodka
