Cocktail Pairings: Grilled Salmon and Classic Chelsea Sidecar Gin Cocktail

Ever since Mark and I were dating, some of our favorite weekends together have been choosing a few new recipes, gathering the ingredients, whipping up a great meal, and pairing it with a fun new cocktail.  To share in our fun, I’ve decided to introduce a new series focusing on pairing food with complementary cocktails.

On one such Saturday years ago, we tried the classic gin cocktail the Chelsea Sidecar and instantly fell in love with this easy but powerful drink.  This cocktail hails from the 1920s and goes by a few other names, including White Lady and Delilah. This time around we paired it with a red chile-honey glazed salmon recipe from Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill cookbook {which I would highly recommend – both the cookbook and his amazing restaurant in Las Vegas}.

Chelsea Sidecar with Salmon

The citrus notes in most gins, as well as the typical citrus garnishes for gin cocktails, really enhance the already delicious salmon flavor. We used North Shore Distillery gin specifically because of its strong citrus flavor.

Chelsea Sidecar Gin Cocktail

  • 1 measure gin
  • 1 measure orange liqueur {we chose Cointreau}
  • 1 measure lemon juice
  • Citrus twist {we chose orange but a lime would work well too}

Dinner was quite delicious and the Chelsea Sidecar offered a nice tart and light balance to the spicy and flavorful salmon.
